Take. Grow. Eat. Repeat

We are delighted that the Aberdeenshire Voluntary Action Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund For Adults approved a grant for One Seed Forward to support 21 seed banks in Aberdeenshire Libraries. This project will be delivered in collaboration with Greener Huntly and this means that the GH team have been run off their feet since the start of the year getting everything in place ready for the start of the growing season.

Here at Greener Huntly HQ, Dawn has been choosing and sourcing the 6500 packets of seeds that we needed to create seed banks for all of the libraries. Katrina has been working on developing a new interactive online growing hub and making plans for 15 drop-in sessions that we’ll be hosting at 5 Seed Hub libraries.

Meanwhile, over at One Seed Forward, Bob has been tackling the monumental task of ordering and organising 1000 kilos of seeds tatties. All of this means that 21 Aberdeenshire Libraries will have almost 300 packets of seeds each and over 40 kilos of seed tatties to share out completely free of charge.

The AVA Communities Mental Health and Wellbeing Fund For Adults was created to provide grants to small, grassroots community groups and organisations working to promote good mental health and wellbeing in their communities. Here at Greener Huntly we know that purposeful time outdoors is enormously beneficial to both physical and mental health. There are few things more rewarding than growing something for your own table but many people face barriers such as knowledge, space and time. With this funding we aim to remove barriers to growing with access to free seeds and seed tatties and also by supporting growers with a wider ongoing conversation throughout the growing year, and with in-person support sessions.

This is a huge project and we are all looking forward to a year where right across the Shire we all grow together.
