Growing guides to help you get started

Updated: Mar 30

Greener Huntly is developing a series of growing guides — and unlike most guides of this nature they're not aimed at people who already know what they're doing!

These guides are for people who assume they're not the gardening type, who don't have a big garden (or any garden at all), or who've tried growing something before and watched it die. That's most of us, at some point. The guides will cover what to grow, when to grow it, and what to do when things don't go according to plan — which they often won't. If you've ever started a sentence with "I'd love to grow stuff but...." then these will be the guides for you.

The focus will be on building confidence more than producing perfect results. Looking after a plant, even badly, teaches you something. You start to pay attention to conditions — light, water, temperature, soil. You learn that plants are often more resilient than they look, and that a lot of apparent failure is just the beginning of a different outcome.

We'll be sharing our own failures as well as our successes. Not because failure is something to celebrate, but because getting back up and trying again is exactly what gardening — and a lot of life — is actually about. The pride of growing your own food or watching something you planted come into flower isn't diminished by the fact that it took a few attempts.

The guides will be available on our website and shared through our online groups and WhatsApp community. We'll develop them based on questions people actually ask and problems they actually encounter, so the more you engage and tell us what you're struggling with, the more useful they'll become.

No green fingers required. Just curiosity and a willingness to get your hands dirty.

If this sounds interesting to you then you should also join our online Growing Hub where you'll find chat and conversation and plenty of tips.
