A little dip into Our pool of
experts, grafters & artisans
Katrina
Since 2014, Katrina has been designing, landscaping, and maintaining sustainable gardens across Scotland, working on diverse projects from large gardens to small crofts. Her background in animal husbandry and animal science (Msc), combined with her certificate in Agroforestry (earned under the late Graham Bell), has been invaluable in creating solutions that balance productivity with environmental stewardship.
As founding co-Director of the Huntly Greenspace Collective, Katrina plays a key role in project design and development, ensuring that each project aligns with the collective’s values of sustainability and biodiversity. Clients benefit from her expertise in managing large projects, delivering tailored solutions, and her additional skills in content writing, training, and education.

Abigail
A grower at heart, Abigail has studied regenerative agriculture to follow her passion in looking after the land holistically. In the past she has been tending a thriving market garden at Coldwell Farm in Insch, selling produce at local markets in 2021 and 2022.

As founding co-Director of the Huntly Greenspace Collective, Abigail is growing plants to start off our community nursery. To add to this, Abigail has been learning all about seed heritage and practical seed saving with the Gaya foundation, helping us develop our Seed Bank and Seed Collective further.
Her practical understanding of being a steward of an Aberdeenshire croft gives her insight into the day to day challenges that our clients face. From working with WOOFERS to living off-grid, she has lived it.
Hazel
Hazel lives and works on a typical Aberdeenshire farm. Her interests have led her to look into alternative, regenerative methods that can be used in tandem with successful traditional farming methods, such as permaculture gardening and composting.

When Hazel worked for Aberdeenshire council, she was integral in coordinating the Town Team. The work that flowed out from one of their major consultations, the Campus for learning and play, was the inspiration for the Huntly Greenspace Collective.

Hazel is a transformative life coach for children and adults, empowering people to truly understand the relationship between thoughts and emotion. Giving them access to all they need to view the world with confidence and love.

Hazel is now working towards being a certified soil food web consultant. This will enable her to help people in ensuring their soil life supports their land without the need for costly additives.
Beatrice
Beatrice has been selling produce at the Huntly farmers market, grown at Wantonwells Farm (Insch) together with her mother Rosie. Beatrice always welcomes new methods that regenerate soil health and boost biodiversity.

Besides small scale farming, Beatrice works for Leith Hall (Kennethmont) as a visitor services supervisor - amongst she organised the Big Hairst Picnic as part of the Huntly Hairst Program for years.

You'd think she does not have time left, but Beatrice volunteers at Orb Bookshop CIC and is overall an active member of the local community, always striving for a greener future.
Stephen
Steven Reeves is a ranger, who has worked in his field since 2007. His passion for land stewardship complements his knowledge about local species and their habitats.
Stephen runs Aller Croft, together with his wife Soozy. A social enterprise set on a croft with grassland and woodland. This experience has brought along knowledge such as woodland management, grazing, renewable energy, and building composting toilets.

Stephen's vast network within local conservation and species monitoring is of great value for the nature restoration work of the Huntly Greenspace Collective.
Alice
Alice is an artist that can flex her artistic muscles in a wide range of projects, from web design and commissioned artwork, to patterns for crochet and knitting.

Besides this, she enjoys garden maintenance, always keen to learn more about plants and ecology.

After teaching art in a diverse secondary school, Alice is equipped with skills that help her talk to people from all walks of life in an open minded inclusive manner.

Her insights into more philosophical aspects of ecology such as chaos theory and emergence, make for wonderful inspiration in practical and governing decisions within the collective.
new members
Anyone is welcome to become a core member, adding talent to our growing collective. Don't worry if you are just starting out, we are here to support you on the way. Just get in touch - we'd be delighted to hear from you.
soozy
Soozy is our play expert and, as you would expect, she brings enthusiasm and fun to the collective. After studying anthropology, she was an integral part of play Aberdeen until they moved to Aller Croft near Huntly.

Soozy works 1:1 with children for the CIC Outdoor Woodland Learning, putting her expertise to good use.

At home Soozy is developing a program of events on their croft including food forest and gardening courses. Their facilities for such events include an A frame shelter, a shared growing space, camp fires, a wildlife pond, and pasture.
maria
Maria is experienced in creating mindful safe spaces for people. Working for Networks of Wellbeing, she helps people with their mind-health and wellbeing. Her skills in deep listening, together with her knowledge around organising workshops, courses and events, help in creating our program at the Huntly Greenspace Collective.

Maria had an active part in planting the first trees for the Huntly community orchard. Here her experience in growing and tending came to good use, completing her skills to engage with the community.

Her international and local connections are testament to these skills, extending across borders of countries and disciplines.
steve
Steve is a retired gamekeeper. Together with a group of volunteers, he started the Huntly famers market, now a thriving monthly market that enables producers to sell straight to their local clients. His business, Mortlach game, provided people with meat while also aiding conservation through managing deer populations.

Being one of the original greenspace enthusiasts, Steve is always looking for opportunities to improve habitat and conserve plant species. Cutting pathways, looking after wild-flower meadows, planting trees, and keeping deer numbers down.
